Given the recent developments surrounding COVID-19 and mindful of public safety around social gatherings, we have decided to postpone Coffee Morning for Matthew’s House until a later date.
It’s not every day that your morning cup of coffee makes a huge impact on families in your community but when you participate in the annual Coffee Morning for Matthew’s House, that cuppa joe does exactly that.
The 7th annual Coffee Morning for Matthew’s House takes place this April 27 – May 1, 2020. This popular event raises funds for Matthew’s House, a place to call home for youth aged 16-24 who live with complex care needs. This home is funded through a blended partnership between government, private donors and fundraising events like Coffee Morning.
Sarah De Klein is the resource development coordinator for Communitas Supportive Care Society, the organization that oversees the services at Matthew’s House. She says the beauty of the fundraiser is its simplicity.
It’s amazing to think that something so simple can raise thousands of dollars for such an important resource.Sarah De Klein, resource development coordinator
Since its inception, Coffee Morning has raised more than $60,000 and De Klein says their goal this year is to raise $20,000.
“It’s an ambitious goal but not impossible for this supportive and generous community,” she says. “We believe we can reach it.”
Hosting a Coffee Morning is easy: choose a day during the week of April 27-May 1 to host your event, invite people to join you for coffee and goodies and let them know that it’s a fundraiser for Matthew’s House. The event is so flexible that it can be adapted for businesses, offices, school groups or individual hosts. De Klein and her team will provide you with a Coffee Morning Kit that includes everything you need to host your event. Guests can make donations by cash or cheque at your Coffee Morning or make their donation online at mattshouse.ca/coffeemorning
To make it even easier for hosts, Starbucks has once again teamed up with Coffee Morning to provide free coffee for hosts who sign up before March 30th.
Jess Hoang is the manager of the Mt. Lehman Starbucks in Abbotsford. She’s been with the company for nearly a decade and has been part of Coffee Morning since it began in 2014. As a company, Starbucks mission is to “inspire and nurture the human spirit” and as such, the coffee company looks for opportunities to be involved in their communities. Hoang is excited to support the families who are connected to Matthew’s House.
“Starbucks is committed, not only to our customers, but also our community,” she says. “We always want to be part of something bigger and every spring, we get to do just that by working to support Matthew’s House through Coffee Morning. Who could say ‘no’ to that?”
